Salmon

Wiradjuri - Tongan

My name is Brandi Salmon and I am a proud 26 year old Wiradjuri woman. I relocated to Nipaluna around 3 years ago. I’ve had a passion for art for as long as I can remember. It first started with drawing and slowly progressed into painting at the age of 17.

I come from a very large Blak family with 7 brothers and Sisters. My father is Aboriginal. I am constantly exploring Aboriginal identityand what it means to be Aboriginal in Australia today.

I initially taught myself how to paint by watching youtube tutorials, however, I was lucky enough to Graduate from Deakin University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Creative Arts. The second person in
my large family to receive a Bachelor’s degree.

I grew up in Gunai Kurnai Country/Victoria, Australia. From 2017-2020 I worked as a Koori Family Violence Support Worker to support Aboriginal women navigating the legal system.

I was inspired by their stories and strength and they have inspired my art subject matter and style.

I currently have an art business and work and live on palawa Countryin Lutruwita / nipaluna.
